Working meeting of the founder of Copelouzos Group with the President of Egypt Abdel Fattah El-Sisi

Dimitris Copelouzos, founder of Copelouzos Group, accompanied by his associates, had a meeting with the President of Egypt Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly, and the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Sources, Mohamed Shaker in Egypt. The meeting reviewed the implementation of projects for the production of electricity from Renewable Energy Sources in Egypt and its transfer to Europe via Greece, through an undersea energy interconnection cable.

As the Presidency of Egypt states in the special Press Release it issued for the working meeting, the two parties met in order to continue their contacts at this highest level, which now brings the implementation of the large investment project of the Copelouzos group “GREGY- ELICA INTERCONNECTION” very close.

As it is known, the “GREGY” concerns the installation by the Copelouzos Group of 9.5 GW RES in Egypt and the transfer of the produced green energy to the markets of Europe through a double submarine cable, following a route of 954 km from El Sallum to Attica.

Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with CEO and Founder of Greece’s Copelouzos group, Mr. Dimitris Copelouzos. The meeting was also attended by Prime Minister, Dr. Moustafa Madbouly, and Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Dr. Mohamed Shaker.

The Spokesman for the presidency said the meeting reviewed the implementation of projects for the generation of electricity from renewable energy sources in Egypt and its transmission to Europe via Greece, through subsea cable for energy interconnection.

The CEO of Copelouzos expressed his honor to meet with President El-Sisi. He also valued Egypt’s achievements over the past years, under the leadership of President El-Sisi in the state’s infrastructure, particularly in the electricity and renewable energy sector, in a record period of time. Mr. Copelouzos looked forward to implementing renewable energy projects in Egypt, with its abundancy of solar and wind energy. This is in addition to the power interconnection with Greece, mainly with the current challenges that Europe faces in the energy field.

The Minister of Electricity reviewed the elements for cooperation with the Greek side to produce 9.5 GW of electricity from wind and solar energy in Egypt, and to transmit it to Europe via Greece through the establishment of a subsea cable for power interconnection. Now as Egypt has a modern infrastructure in the electricity field, operating according to the national strategy with integrated pillars of production stations, transmission lines, distribution and control networks. This ensured the sustainability of securing power supplies all over the country and opened the prospects to inaugurate regional power interconnection projects.

President El-Sisi stressed the importance of enhancing joint cooperation with the Greek company to generate and transmit clean energy. This shall not only serve Egypt and Greece but also Europe and Africa, consolidating Egypt’s position as a regional hub for the of trade all forms of energy.
